DeGray and Knauf have over three decades of experience in publishing. They understand the high of
acceptance and the low of rejection. They also realize the value in critique. Universal Butterfly strives to
offer a non-biased approach toward a writer’s work – critique is in the words, not the author name or
topic.
Every affair has multiple sides to the story. Reviewers and publishers alike tend to sometimes get lost in
their emotions and preferences. Good writing is good writing, and that is what Universal Butterfly
believes. On the other side of the spectrum, from a writer’s stance, accepting criticism or rejection and
using that to produce a quality redraft shapes a talented wordsmith into an extraordinary and lasting
writer.
With this being said, do not be shy, we are grown-ups, we can take the inappropriateness, the mental
anguish, the graphic, the gore. Life is gross and filthy at times; it is not just dancing amongst dandelions
in an open field on a perfect spring afternoon with puppies chasing around a unicorn. That field would
not be beautiful unless it had rained, and dandelions are actually weeds. Life needs balance is what we
are trying to say; do not be afraid to escape the safe zone and experience and write what others will not.
ACCEPTS: Literary Fiction, Genre Fiction*, Speculative Fiction, and Non-Fiction.
DOES NOT ACCEPT: *Romance or Erotica, Poetry, YA, and Children’s.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
-We accept unsolicited Novellas, Novels, or Short Story Collections. -We only accept submissions electronically. -In the subject line, please write “Submission” and then the title or your work and your name. -Please write your query and brief bio in the body of the email and attach only your submission*.
-Please label your document “Submission_Title_Author Name”.
